Bug in a Book

I remain convinced that a whole field of study within historical entomology consists in researching the smushed bugs found in old books. This squashed little friend in an antiquated book is possibly over 100 years old - not the oldest we've come across, but interesting nonetheless.

  1. Maybe this is indicative of the legendary use of books as fly swatters. I recall tales of patient readers who wait for the fly to land on their pages and then with a cry of triumph slam the book shut squashing the annoying bug. All in all a gross practice which has seen its day and should never return.
